University of Portsmouth opens new virtual reality centre

A new virtual reality Centre for Creative and Immersive XR was recently launched at the University of Portsmouth.

Indeed, the £5m centre is now available to businesses and charities and provides them with tools used by video game developers and movie makers to create virtual content of good quality. Besides, the university will also use the tools in order to train students for real-life projects. Some of the tools available include WhiteLight SmartStage and the latest version of the Unreal graphics engine, which are deployed by the likes of Disney Studios and such.

As Virtual Reality and Extended Reality are slowly getting recognised as useful training tools, it is still difficult for businesses to implement due to a lack of content.  Hence, the centre is determined to change that and attract many students and enterprises to adopt the new technology and see its benefits.
